Our Saviour's UCC History

Our Saviour’s United Church of Christ has a long and proud history in this community, ranging from the present all the way back to the Civil War era.  Founded in 1863, the “Scott Street Church,” as it is also known, continues to have one of the largest congregations in the area.  Throughout 2013 special events have been planned in celebration of our 150th Anniversary.

Anniversary weekend is October 13th through the 14th, 2013.  On Saturday, October 13th Chicago Gargoyle Brass and Jared Stellmacher will be performing.  Sunday, October 14th guest pastor Becky Johnston will be preaching, Jared Stellmacher will be providing music throughout the church service, also a special Anniversary Dinner is planned. Join us in our newly air-conditioned sanctuary.

Included in this “History” section, you will find pages from the 75th Anniversary booklet (which was published in 1938), and, the 100th Anniversary booklet, from 1963.  We welcome any and all photographs that members would like to share with us.  They will be scanned onto the website, and returned to you in good condition.  Additionally, we would appreciate help from long-time members, with identifying people in various photographs.  If you would like to help with photo identification, or, if you have old pictures to share, please contact Kathy Schieler, or Sandy Krueger. Thanks for your help!
